Drove one the first year it was out - very solid car. Some of the switchgear was similar or identical to my ‘88 Camry 5M wagon (not brown) but that’s hardly a bad thing.

I think the LS series cars have consistently been the best looking from Lexus. Not flashy or setting any styling trends, but that conservative, modest styling on that large frame translates well into a polished, no-nonsense look. Regal is probably the best word, and it's a hell of a lot more regal than the car which carried that name.

I could watch promotional material like this all day long. I just love the way the fantasy of owning these cars was sold back in the day, not just in video form but in the brochures as well.

Personally I prefer the 1st iteration of the LS400. I don’t think the second generation looked bolder, I think its closer to the opposite. The first generation had a nice stance with its wider head and taillights, the 2nd gen does look a bit generic in comparison.

Also, its unbelievable how cheap you can get the first generation of Lexus now. These cars have been quite a remarkable achievement and are a milestone in automotive history, as well as an excellent example of how ahead of its game the Japanese auto industry was in the late 80s/ early 90s. That alone justifies getting one while you still can.
